What Is ReviveRTM?

Tech Assists' ReviveRTM can recover deleted files even if the files were deleted from the recycle bin, or if applications (which normally bypass the recycle bin) deleted the files. ReviveRTM can also recover lost files even after a complete format. ReviveRTM is a safe, effective and read-only data recovery solution.

Product Features

  • Works under Microsoft Windows XP / 2003
  • Supported file system: NTFS 3.1 (as formatted by XP and up)
  • Unique Validation Engine, allows predicting the recoverability of files
  • Protects data from being overwritten while working with the program
  • Includes a free FAT module for legacy FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32 file system support! This version is free for registered ReviveRTM NTFS users and is not sold separately.
  • Deleted File Recovery (Undelete) Mode
  • Lost File Recovery (Unformat) Mode for recovering files even after a complete format
  • Recovers from any NTFS formatted storage media.

ReviveRTM can be used to recover files from:

  • Accidental file deletion, even after the Windows Recycle Bin has been emptied
  • Delete actions that bypassed the Recycle Bin (files deleted by applications or from a command prompt)
  • Volumes that were (accidentally) formatted
  • Various other types of volume corruption

Note: There are some differences between the FAT and the NTFS edition! The FAT edition is developed only with support for legacy file systems in mind. Recovering data intact from FAT formatted volumes is by no means guaranteed due to the way files are organized on FAT volumes.

Recovery Modes

Undelete Mode:
Select this mode if you are trying to recover files that were deleted (i.e. files that are no longer in the recycle bin, or have been deleted by applications, deleted while holding SHIFT-key, or other accidental actions). The partition that contains the deleted files must be accessible and un-damaged.

If 'Deleted file recovery' was selected ReviveRTM will only show NTFS formatted drives.

Unformat Mode:
Select this mode when partitions have been reformatted. In this mode ReviveRTM will discard the 'active' file system and scan the drive for file system structures. This scan will take time. Based on scan results ReviveRTM will try to reconstruct a file system in memory from which files can then be recovered.

In the next step ReviveRTM will display all logical drives (including NTFS, but also FAT/32) and physical drives. This is done so that you can select a newly formatted FAT partition that was previously formatted as NTFS. So, even when a non-NTFS drive is selected from the list, ReviveRTM will still treat it as an NTFS formatted drive!

Validation Engine

ReviveRTM (NTFS version only!) features a file validation engine. Many file formats have recognizable structures, headers and 'magic bytes'. For file types that are recognized by the validation engine the internal file structure is partially examined. If the extension of a file matches found structures, headers and magic bytes the file is probably intact. If the file extension does not correspond with found structures, it's almost certain that the file is corrupt.

The following file types are validated:

".JPG", ".GIF", ".ZIP", ".CAB", ".EXE", ".DLL", ".OCX", ".WRI", ".BMP", ".DOC", ".PPT", ".XLS", ".PDF", ".RAR", ".MP3", ".MPG", ".MPEG", ".MPE".

How accurate is validation? Well, no algorithm can replace the human eye! An algorithm can search for common structures and compare these to known-to-be-good values. It can however not determine if the file it is examining is a picture of a windmill or a picture of a boat. Manually verifying files after recovery is the only way to verify if files are intact or corrupt.

Recovering Files In Demo Mode

ReviveRTM allows you to recover files in demo mode so you can fully review the software before buying.

However when recovering files using the demo version:

  • You can only select and copy one file at a time
  • You can not copy folders
  • A 3 second delay occurs before the selected file is copied
  • A pop-up message is displayed with each file copied
These limitations are removed as soon as you register ReviveRTM! To prevent you from having to scan a disk again, ReviveRTM immediately switches to licensed mode once the license key has been entered so you can then start recovering your files. The license key can be entered by clicking the appropriate button in the toolbar.
