The ByteBack Data Recovery Investigative SuiteTM Undo Mechanism explained

There are 2 situations where ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM creates an undo archive:
- during the automatic repair procedure ('analyze & repair')
- before restoring the Partition Layout Backup ('Backup/Restore' in the 'tools' menu)
The undo archive contains all the original sectors before they are changed by the procedures mentioned above, so the undo archive can be used to revert to the situation as it was before a repair, or before a partition layout restore.

ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM keeps only 1 undo archive per disk! This means that you can only undo the latest operation for one specific disk!

If the undo archive is about to be overwritten with new information, ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM will inform you of this. You can then abort the operation, or proceed and have ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM create a new undo archive. At this point the previous undo information is no longer available.

Examples:

* Original State (A) > Repairs are written to disk, leads to State (B) > Undo Archive can roll back to State (A).

* Original State (A) > Repairs are written to disk, leads to State (B) > Undo Archive can roll back to State (A) > More repairs are written to disk, leads to State (C) > Undo Archive can roll back to State (B), but no longer to State (A).

Important! Modifications made to a disk by using any other components than the automatic repair features or the partition table restore feature, are not included in the Undo Archive! Before you modify a sector using for example the Disk Editor, make sure you keep a copy of the original sector (use the [Export Sector] feature in the disk editor)!

Performing an Undo:

The undo feature will always 'roll-back' the entire repair session that was performed. It is not possible to undo one specific item that was modified during a repair; this behavior is by design to prevent 'half finished' repairs which in themselves could lead to problems.
First select the disk [Select Disk] that was repaired and for which you want to roll-back the repairs. Then from the [Tools] menu, select [Undo last repairs]. You will then be asked to confirm the Undo operation.

Important! An 'LDM backup' restore action can not be rolled back!
