Registering  ByteBack Data Recovery Investigative SuiteTM

If you run ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM without a (valid) License Key, the program will run in 'Demo-Mode': all features are enabled and accessible, but ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM will not write any changes to the disk. To obtain a valid License Key you must purchase a license.

After you have purchased a license:

The definitive license key will be issued to you at the time of purchase.

Enter your License Key when ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM prompts you to do so. If you wish to re-enter your license key (because you have upgraded your license and have received a new key) you can do so by selecting the "enter license key" option from the "options" menu.

The License and using a bootable CD/DVD:

If you want to run ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM from CD/DVD you either need to enter a license key each time you run ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM, or you need to add the file "BB.KEY" to the diskette or diskette image you will use to create your bootable CD/DVD with. The "BB.KEY" file is a simple ASCII (text) file containing your License Key.

The BB.KEY file is created by ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM when you enter the definitive License Key. If ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM is run from an environment in which the key-file can be saved (for instance, from the DOS boot diskette), ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM will do so. If you wish to add the key-file to a bootable CDROM, so you won't have to re-enter the key each time, follow these steps :

  • create the ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM DOS bootdiskette
  • start ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM from the diskette by booting the PC from this diskette
  • enter your license key
  • exit ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM

Now use this DOS boot diskette as an image for the bootable CDrom.

If you wish to add the BB.KEY file to your bootable CDROM manually, create a plain ASCII file (using for example Notepad) named BB.KEY. Type your license key in this file, without any spaces or other control characters. Place the BB.KEY file in the same location as the ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM executable (BB4.EXE).
