Installing and running ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM
Before running ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM, the system needs to be started from a bootable DOS boot floppy disk.
Using our boot disk image
We recommend that you download the ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM Boot Disk Image file.
Unzip the contents of this file into a folder on your computer. Then simply double-click (from within Windows) bb4image.exe which is contained in the ZIP file and it will prompt you to create a boot disk containing all the necessary files to run ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM on any PC equipped with a floppy drive. You'll need a formatted 1.44 floppy disk to complete this procedure.
Boot the computer using this new boot disk and follow the on-screen prompts.
NOTE: Using our boot disk can greatly enhance the speed of ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM
as it loads UDMA drivers* and memory managers that improve overall performance.
* May not work correctly with all drives. If errors persist using UDMA drivers, choose "Safe Mode" when running
ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM to bypass loading those drivers.
Creating a boot disk from within Windows
You can make a bootable floppy diskette from within Windows.
On your desktop, there should be an icon "My Computer". Double click this icon to open My Computer. It should display your floppy drives, hard drives, CD-ROM and any other storage devices on your system.
Click once on the floppy drive that contains the floppy diskette you are preparing. Now click once with the right mouse button on the floppy drive, which will bring up a menu. Follow the menu down to "Format…" Now click on the format menu option. This will bring up the floppy format program. Before you click on start, make sure to choose the radio button, "copy system files only". Now click start. Once the floppy diskette is bootable and the ByteBack program file (bb4.exe) has been copied to the floppy diskette, you are ready to run the program.
Memory Managers
If you create a bootdisk on Windows 95 and 98 then you need to add himem.sys to your boot diskette and create a config.sys with the following lines:
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
A Windows ME or XP 'rescue diskette' will automatically load HIMEM (even if himem.sys is not present on the diskette - is integrated in IO.SYS), no additional steps are required.
DOS
If you are preparing a floppy diskette from the DOS level, use the following command to transfer bootable system files to the floppy.
· Format /S A: (Where A: is the floppy drive)
SATA Drives
For SATA disks, you may need to enter the setup of the BIOS or SATA controller setup, to enable LEGACY support (legacy ATA mode).
SCSI Device Drivers
ByteBack D.R.I.S.TM does not need any drivers at any time to access SCSI devices as it accesses those through BIOS int 13 services. In case of SCSI disks, you just need to make sure to enable int13 support in the SCSI setup.
Bootable CD/DVD
If you would like to run ByteBack D.R.I.S from
a bootable CD/DVD, more information can be found within the Registration section.
Alternatively you may find more information regarding the creation of bootable CD/DVD's within the documentation for your CD/DVD Burning software. |
